Here are the top 3 things I learned in the DR… plus one bonus because apparently I can’t count. 1. Driving should be an Olympic sport. If you can drive in Santo Domingo, you can drive anywhere. The traffic, the motos, the horns… absolute chaos. And watch out for those questionable police stops. 😂 2. Your Metro is AMAZING. Seriously, one of the cleanest metro systems I’ve seen since we lived in Singapore. But what impressed me most was how people immediately offered my pregnant wife their seat. Every single time. 3. Dominicans are some of the nicest people on the planet. I’ve been to 117 countries, and the Dominican Republic is easily top five when it comes to the people. Everywhere we went, you welcomed us, helped us, and treated us like we belonged here. And yes, I know I said three… 4. The DR is a SPORTS POWERHOUSE. Everyone knows about the baseball. But volleyball? Track and field? Basketball? This country has some serious athletes. Getting to experience that firsthand at these Games was something special. I came here as a visitor. I’m leaving as part of the Dominican family. 🇩🇴❤️ Gracias, República Dominicana. #santodomingo2026 #centralamericanandcaribbeangames #dominicanrepublic

You’ve probably heard Glory’s voice more times than you realize, because she was right there during one of the most important eras in reggaeton. Glorimar Montalvo Castro, better known as Glory or Glou, was already part of Puerto Rico’s reggaeton scene before the genre became a worldwide phenomenon. By the early 2000s, her voice was appearing alongside some of the men who were taking reggaetón mainstream. Don Omar’s “Dale Don Dale.” Héctor & Tito’s “Baila Morena.” Daddy Yankee’s “Gasolina.” Glory can be heard across all three. And these weren’t forgettable background vocals either. Her hooks, responses, and short lines became some of the most recognizable moments in these songs. On “Gasolina,” Glory is the woman giving the famous response throughout the song, yet she wasn’t billed as a featured artist on the original release. Meanwhile, Daddy Yankee, Don Omar and other men from that era were becoming household names around the world. Glory’s voice was reaching millions of listeners too, but her name never reached that same level of recognition. She did eventually try putting herself at the front. In 2004, Glory released “La Popola,” and the song became so controversial because of its sexual lyrics that it was banned from radio in the Dominican Republic. But the controversy didn’t stop it from becoming a hit. “La Popola” reached the Top 10 on Billboard’s Tropical Airplay chart, and in 2005, she followed it with her solo album Glou. Still, the solo success never turned Glory into the household name that many of the men whose records featured her voice became. We remember the songs. We remember the hooks. We remember her voice. But somehow, an entire generation could grow up listening to Glory without ever knowing the name of the woman they were hearing. So why do you think reggaeton overlooked one of the women behind some of its biggest songs? 👀
