Dominican Republic Travel Guide 2025/26: The Best Places & Paradise Islands

The Dominican Republic is known around the world long beaches, clear waters, and resorts like Punta Cana, made for pure relaxation. But there’s much more to see. In Santo Domingo, the capital, colonial streets tell the story of the island’s past. In the mountains around Jarabacoa, rivers and waterfalls break the tropical heat. The far north in Monte Cristi feels a world away from tourism, while the Samaná Peninsula offers dramatic scenery and wild beaches that stretch for miles. One of those is a allready a favourite!

I ended my journey on Saona Island, which for me was a highlight. White sand, turquoise water, and the feeling that you’ve found the postcard version of the Caribbean.

This guide takes you through both the well-known and the less-visited corners of the Dominican Republic, so you can decide which part of the island suits you best.
