Hello, the video and the comments got a lot of my questions answered but I wanted to ask everyone their opinion on this…
I am planing on visiting DR with my 2 daughters and my wife in July of 2023. We will stay there for 2.5 weeks and we would like to do a road trip and visit as much as possible. like Santo Domingo, Punta Cana, Samana, and puerto plata. We would like to stop and visit few things as we go on the road.
My questions are:
Is it safe for us to do a road trip in DR and drive to those places I mentioned?
How is it like renting a car in DR? I had a bad experience in Mexico that the online the car cost $20 dollars a day but when you go get the car they add an extra $100 dollars daily for obligatory insurance and our trip ended up being way more expensive than planned. I’m worried DR will do the same.
Any recommendations on where to rent a car?
Is it safe to stay in Airbnb and small hotels? We are planing on staying 3 days in an all inclusive resort in Punta Cana and the other nights stay in cheaper places.
Do they charge the extra 10% + 18% taxes everywhere or is it just in few places, business, or cities?
What is the most convenient way to pay the locals for services and food for example in small restaurants or food stands, and tours. I know is cash but dollars or do they take the dollar cheaper than what it is actually worth. Is it more convenient to exchange money and where?
Any other advice I should know before planing a 2.5 road trip vacations with 2 daughters my wife and I in DR?
