SANTO DOMINGO ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ด The REAL Dominican Republic — Beyond The Tourist Zone | 197 Countries, 3 Kids

Trading Punta Cana’s tourist-filled beaches for Santo Domingo’s authentic charm, we hopped on a local bus ready to discover the real Dominican Republic.

What awaited us in the capital city completely blew us away!

As we wandered through the Colonial Zone’s cobblestone streets, each turn revealed another piece of history – from the first cathedral ever built in the Americas to hidden courtyards where Christopher Columbus himself once walked.

Our apartment along the bustling Malecรณn gave us the perfect base to explore this UNESCO World Heritage site. We found ourselves lost in time among centuries-old monasteries and convents, climbing ancient fortress walls that once protected the city from pirates, and descending into the mysterious Three Eyes National Park – a network of caves and crystal-clear lagoons hidden beneath the city streets.

This isn’t the Dominican Republic most tourists see. Instead of all-inclusive resorts, we discovered local eateries serving authentic Dominican flavors. Rather than organized tours, we let the oldest European city in the Americas tell its own story through its grand colonial architecture, vibrant street life, and the warm smiles of its people.

Join our family as we uncover why Santo Domingo is the cultural heart of the Caribbean!

  1. The statues are located in Independence Park. In honor of the heroes who liberated us๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ด from Haitian rule from 1822 to 1844. We were slaves of Haiti.

  3. If you have the time try going to La Romana and Casa de Campo! There people like Oscar de la Renta (Dominican Native and famous designer who designed clothing for first ladies like Jackie Kennedy among others) and Julio Iglesias and other greats have lodged! Also try the ice cream such as Helados Bon (Helados meaning Ice cream and Bon for good in French) which is one of the best. Plenty of things to see and taste there! Have fun! OH and BTW the word Primo which now caught like wild fire orignated there! ๐Ÿ˜„ It's like the Spanish version of black people calling each other brother or sister! Enjoy and be safe!

  4. Thank you for visit Repรบblica Dominicana and go to Santo Domingo.
Everybody is welcome to Dominican Republic ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ด.
Enjoy the country, enjoy with the people and culture, enjoy the music, enjoy, enjoy!!!

  5. I would encourage you to do some research beyond the fear mongering your hear about. Don't go to the bad barrios or the hood, but you are safe in the colonial city, and the rest of Santo Domingo. Piantini, Naco, and the rest of the capital is very safe. The rest of the country is not only safe but extremely beautiful.

  6. You keep saying that its dangerous there, its not. The resort will tell you that so you spend your money in the resort. I have travelled to many countries, many, even to war zones, the DR is a very safe country, kidnapping, cartel and all the things you see in other countries, we do not tolerate that in the DR. There are petit crimes, but violence against tourists is rare. Enjoy your trip, Santo Domingo is a city full of history and friendly people!

  7. Good video, I want to tell you that it is more unsafe for those of us who live here than for tourists, this is because many people live from tourism that's why tourists are given more priority, also the other Caribbean countries run their anti-Dominican campaign so that people visit them and here not equally here more people always come 10 million a year hahaha

  8. Enjoy , have fun ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป DR is yours ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป
