I was walking down an old street in the colonial district of Santo Domingo when I saw this man sitting outside a shop. I started talking with him and he was so sweet. he kept worrying about my safety in the Dominican and I assured him that although I was traveling alone I’d be all right.
To be perfectly honest, every person I met in the Dominican Republic thought I was crazy for walking through certain areas of town and kept trying to get me to hide my camera, which isn’t the easiest thing to do when you have a tripod strapped to your back and you’re trying to shoot photography. although everyone encouraged me to take taxis, I insisted on walking and riding local buses because I feel it’s a more honest experience that way.
