If you’ve ever wondered what Easter / Holy Week in the Dominican Republic is REALLY like — this is it.

We filmed across multiple days to show how quickly things change:

👉 Wednesday: Surprisingly calm. A bit busier than normal… but still very much “everyday Cabarete”
👉 Good Friday (Viernes Santo): A completely different vibe — no music, no alcohol sales, and a strong police & military presence across town
👉 Saturday: Everything ramps up… crowds, traffic, music, and energy as the long weekend hits full swing 🎉

This is the week where Dominicans from cities across the country head to the beach — and Cabarete becomes a totally different place.

In this video, we’re showing you:
✔️ What Semana Santa actually looks like day-by-day
✔️ What rules to expect on Good Friday
✔️ How busy Cabarete gets (and when!)
✔️ What surprised us the most this year
✔️ Tips for visiting during Semana Santa

Whether you’re a tourist planning a trip or a local curious about Cabarete during Semana Santa 2026, this gives you a real, on-the-ground look at what to expect.

💡 Is it too busy? Is it still worth visiting? We’ll help you decide.

  1. You’re seeing empty beaches because, under the current government, we’ve had a lot of restrictions following the pandemic; they’re a bit dictatorial, curtailing the very things that make us Dominican. But this year, many Dominicans decided to head to the south of the country. I hope you still had a good time.

  2. I think it’s due time for a return visit to the DR! Went in 2023 for a quick four days. Think I would like to do a full week to be able to explore a bit!!

  3. 🇨🇦❤👍🇩🇴Beautiful Beach and Beautiful Weather Trevor & Anna🇩🇴 Great to See Everyone out Enjoying the Beach on their Time Off. I Loved Playing Dominions when I Vacationed in Cuba in the Past. Beautiful Birds Eye View from Your Drone Trevor.🇩🇴Lots of Kitesurfing Nice would be Fun Watching them!!!!

  4. OMG 😱….I’m always back home in Canada by April but I’ve heard about the chaos of semana santa … now I get it!!! 😂 Thanks for this great video..it definitely puts the stories I’ve heard in perspective 😂. And if Cabarete was always like this, I agree with you guys, would definitely not come there for a few months. Thankfully the peace will return soon. I am glad for the dominicains who enjoy this tradition ❤. Happy Easter 🐣 Trevor & Anna

  5. Anna ! Trevors spanish is good lol My husband and I were thinking of going again in July. How is the weather there in Puerto Plata in July. It is to much rain?
Im getting the tank your wearing Love it! God bless you guys! Always watching !

  6. This is our first Semana Santa here. We moved to Cabarete last April. Yesterday we were at Encuentro Beach, and it was very chill. I was surprised; I guess everyone was in Sosua and Cabarete. Trevor, Great job with the Spanish!!

  7. At the beach in Punta Cana on Friday they had police and military all over the place and wouldn't allow beach bars to serve beer in the bottles for the day. Also they forced everyone out of the sea at 6PM which was strange. Busy and fun at the beach and in town and driving is crazy as always! lol

  8. Hey guys 🙋🏻‍♂️
Loved the way you did this video recording different days. Even I know those kind of things happens in some places of the DR on this season I feel ashamed. Dominican society is degrading more and more each day 🤦🏻‍♂️.
    Be safe guys 🙌🏼!!

  9. Great representation of Semana Santa! We were on the beach Friday and Saturday and really enjoyed the vibe, but we’re staying away today 😅. See you on the beach Monday!

  10. Hi Anna and Trevor! Happy Easter, or Domingo de Resurrección. As someone who loves everything yuca, I felt a little envious of you—I hope you enjoyed the Bola de Yuca!
There are so many other yuca dishes you should try if you haven’t already, like Bollitos (similar to what you had, but spindle-shaped) and Chulitos, which are like Bollitos but without the filling. There are also Arepitas, Panecicos, and the famous yuca empanadas (Catibias) that I think you’ve tried before. We even have a dessert made with yuca called Buñuelos!

  11. That part of Caberette is a public beach, so every single crazy and no crazy Dominican will be there. The rest of Dominicans, will be in all inclusive hotels either for the entire holy week or Fri-Monday.

  12. My country already has a ton of bad drivers, and once you add alcohol to the mix, the smartest thing you can do is just stay home.
