If you’ve ever tried to get an apartment fully set up in the Dominican Republic, you’ll understand why this video turned into a bit of a Cabarete beach pub crawl. 😅
In this one, we’re walking Cabarete Beach, stopping at a few of our favorite spots, swapping drinks for stories, and laughing our way through the chaos of getting our new apartment ready. What starts as a casual night out quickly turns into a collection of crazy, silly, and very Dominican Republic–specific moments that honestly couldn’t have happened anywhere else.
This video is mostly here to give you a good chuckle — but it’s also a real look at island time and what life is actually like when you’re buying property and setting up a home in the DR. Things move differently here. Timelines are flexible. Expectations must be… adjusted. 😂
If you’re thinking about moving to the Dominican Republic, buying property, or even just visiting Cabarete, this is a fun (and honest) peek at what to expect when things don’t work the way they do “back home.”
🍻 Stops along the way:
• El Pescador
• Latin Wok
• Aura Beach Club
• Vagamundo
• Ojo
Island time was in full effect. Drinks were consumed. Lessons were learned. Would we do it again? Absolutely.

I go through same Sally problems like that all time! I m leaving at capital and the silliness gets real between looming and electrical issues I in always so my money😮
Thanks so much for the useful insights ❤
Im so glad you guys got though it!!! Love your videos! Always watch them! Thank you much. Heading there in March hopefully.
Unfortunately, nothing is perfect and it is even less perfect in a developing country. It's good for these faults to be pointed out so that the authorities can begin to pay attention
It’s a stress free culture 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
What bank did you deal with. Sounds like they really made the process quick, and easy except for the phone thing!
👍👏🙂🙋
I love story time! Cheers 🍻
I lived in Barbados for a couple of years so totally understand. When we moved there other non Bajans warned us to not let repair people take your item into the shop as you would never see it again!
Your experience is pretty much par for the course. We ain't in Kansas anymore, Toto!
You almost need to bring your own jack of all trades guy from Canada.
Mañana stress 🙂 looking forward to seeing the new apartment next week, maybe the week after 🙂
Glad you guys mentioned about the Amazon deliveries. Invested in a place there, and definitely going to be ordering some items from Amazon.
They’re great for buying items for a new home. One stop shopping. Your video gives me a heads up on things to expect. Thanks for sharing!🌴😎👍🏾
Where do you guys stay when you rent your place out? Or are you traveling during those times?
That's the part I think it's not well understood . You buy something in US or I assume Canada or some other places and expect what you payed for. In DR when you pay a considerable amount of cash for a property, it's to assume that the finish is done by well trained , well paid individuals , with knowledge not only on the work but also on the environment, Unfortunately the DR lacks on that,. It's to be consider that the very high price is set on… Heck, I have no idea where they come up with the prices…… because the quality and service don't go along..
Greetings from windsor trevor and anna. Been enjoying your journey and look forward to your vids. Totally relate to all of this! We have 2 properties and let me tell you… We couldnt handle the amount of Dominican waters we would consume if we had storytime.
As a Dominican, I can confirm customer service needs a lot of improvement over there.
I am seeing Chemtrails in your video.
Although, things are different in DR, the fact that you are not native or have ‘t been there for a long time, you don’t know the right places, ways, etc., is what has made that experience a nightmare.
Hey Guys ! Wow some times it happens people don’t take their time to read the manual when they are installing new appliances by the way guys i hate when i hear the mexican corona I would toss the lime if i get a presidente beer with lime mimiking the Mexican.i still don’t understand why they have to copy the mexican tradition with the lime in the corona. I would show them I don’t like that, of course i respect you Guys decision. Your probably don’t mind maybe. Lol…also DR is still in the growing process but man! They are years behind with Costumer service in that regards and yes puntuality? It’s a culture there! And that is so sad. Every day you have to dress up with patience specially with setting up a place like you guys are. But at the end is worthy… we are so happy you guys got pretty much everything in to place.. good luck guys…
So happy for you guys I have been on thru all your stops between August – October lol. Nothing tested my patience like this experience of setting up my place there unbelievable. But you know what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger right . It’s a a whole 180• difference so highly recommend drop your expectations to places your never imagined. And eventually every time I was about to give up I just see that blue Esmeralda water 💦 and I just keep going lol. We made it we all made it congratulations to you too my favs ❤❤
Lived in DR for several years, it has changed, and seems to be going downhill. so much garbage everywhere, nobody seems to care about having a clean space. locals just leave their garbage on the ground. had so many structual issues in my new condo. plumbing issues etc. sold it at a loss after 6 years living there. sad to see a beautiful country go down the hill like that.
Thanks for showing the reality of the process. Our experience with the purchase and set up of our condo was also challenging but worth it. We look forward to getting to Cabarete next month and doing our own bar crawl and soaking up the atmosphere. Cheers!
Thx for helpful videos! May I ask which bank you ended up using? Santa Cruz seems to get the vote most often.
