This week we’re back in Santiago de los Caballeros — and we’re on a mission: to eat as much Dominican food as possible.

From iconic street food to modern, high-end dining, Santiago might just have one of the best food scenes in the Dominican Republic… and somehow, it still flies under the radar.

In this video, we try a mix of traditional Dominican dishes, street food favorites, and creative modern cuisine — and honestly… we were blown away.

🍽️ What we ate in Santiago:

📍 NOAH Restaurant & Lounge (Modern Dominican / Upscale Dining)

* Croquetas de Ropa Vieja
* Canasticas de Yuca
* Tacos Cochinita Pibil

📍 La Galeria – El mejor quipe de la ciudad | Tapas urbanas (Local Favorite)

* Traditional Quipe
* Blue Cheese Quipe
* Chorizo Quipe

📍 Empanados – Street food, bar and market (Street Food Spot)

* Morir Soñando
* Mini Empanada (Pizza)
* Mini Empanada (Pollo)

📍 El Gordo de La Brasa (Classic Dominican Street Food)

* Original Chimi

From crispy quipes (a Dominican twist on kibbeh), to juicy chimis, to refreshing drinks like morir soñando — this video is packed with some of the most popular foods you HAVE to try in the DR.

Santiago, known as La Ciudad Corazón, is the second largest city in the country and a major hub for Dominican culture — and that includes its incredible food scene. If you want to experience real Dominican cuisine beyond the resorts, this is the place to do it.

  1. Ropa Vieja is actually shredded beef. Whenever my dad makes it he gets a flank steak. We don’t eat it much because it grows in the mouth and it’s a real pain in the ass in our opinion.

  2. I am from Santiago Province and currently living in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, your country. In your next trip to Santiago please visit San José de las Matas (SAJOMA). You'll enjoy the mountains of the Cordillera Central within Santiago Province. The best.

  3. Trevor and Anna, friends of Santiago,🇩🇴 have enough material for you to make a dozen videos trying different dishes. At all price points. You can find delicious sushi, several craft breweries, grilled meats, traditional food, pizzerias, and restaurants.

  4. Yes Santiago don’t get a lot of love and attention from English speaking YouTubers. Maybe because many expats are not really interested in living there, because Spanish is predominantly spoken there. Thanks guys for showcasing Santiago, now I feel like I would like to visit there. 👍

  5. You need to go to MOCA, is a 30 minutes drive from Santiago, and its home of the best mofongo of the country. The best quipes you can buy from this old lady that sells them only on saturdays and sundays at the local zoo's side. Visit the country's first 3D street and visit one of the most beautiful churchs in the country " Parroquia Corazon de Jesus" there are also cute lil cafe shops, i would recomend El grando De Cafe.

  6. The fact that you guys sat down, at some street food bar, ordered a chimi, in the area, grabbad a presidente, on a sunday evening, as a week closure… and felt comfortable about it; you are dominicanizing yourself 🤣

  7. A lot of Dominicans have Lebanese, Syrian, and Palestinian ancestry. They arrived to the DR in the late 1800s escaping persecution from the Ottoman Empire.

    The DR has the largest Lebanese diaspora in the Antilles.

    Other Dominican dishes of Middle Eastern origins are Tipili (tabbouleh), arroz con fideos (Arabic Rice), Berenjenas asadas, and dulce de higo.

  8. Guys! I’ve been following you and can’t believe is your first time having morir-soñando and a chimi! Each time we go to DR, we must have chimi for dinner at least 3 times 😅 – is just not the same for restaurants that make here in the US 😢

  9. I am happy you tried Morirsoñando and liked it 😀 Yes, I grew up there, but spent the last 35 years between Japan, US and Germany. Planning my return soon! Your channel is wonderful for us expat Dominicans as well. Thank you so much!
    PS: The closest thing to quipes I have found outside of DR, is Sicilian Arancinis. Super good too.
